A Snippet for Catch-Up

So, with Face Book and email and all, I have clearly neglected this blog. Let's see if I can give it some attention today. I'll post a few photos that have accumulated. Whenever I preach and the ideas are churning in my head and clamoring to be expressed, I think of writing long posts. Then, somehow, it doesn't happen! Maybe I'll do it later this week. I'm speaking at Dakar Academy this Sunday and thinking of continuing to develop what I said in Ouakam a couple weeks back. If it burns in my soul again, I'll try to share a bit here.

But for now, let me show you some photos and clips. First, from yesterday. As we came home from church, we turned the corner and saw boys sprawled all over our door step. Many were sound asleep. Jane expected one young guy to be there, with his helper. He has an on-going bone infection and she changes his bandage at the house on weekends. But the others are a seasonal issue. Malaria season. Every day for many weeks, Jane and Antoinette have been sending 6-10 boys to the local clinics with high fevers and headaches and all the classic malaria symptoms. All the Koranic schools seem to be in the thick of it. They just keep reinfecting each other, I suppose.

On weekends, when Jane doesn't open the church courtyard for the boys, they come find her with such emergencies. And in the evenings. I'm afraid there isn't much down time for Jane at the moment when this is combined with grading homework and writing tests and all.

Now, remember that entrance to our house in the video. Here are some photos looking out from the inside after a rain a month back. The street is actually higher than our entranceway. That's why the little wall is there.

The only problem is that the water that fills up the patio area has no where to go. So we get to bail!

Nice, huh?
