Well, the team of 21 is here. They came yesterday morning at 6 AM. Well, they were scheduled at 6. They did get in eventually. And they made it through their first day, the hardest physically, from traveling for so many hours and with the time-zone change.
Jane introduced a new element to our orientation, inspired by what some missionary friends did with the Taylor team in June. She sent them on a scavenger hunt in our neighborhood. Out they went in groups of 3-4 to find and buy bread; make a phone call back to us from a telecenter; give vitamins to some talibé; and several other small tasks. What a great idea! They got off the conference center campus and out on their own on the first day, doing something that felt a bit terrifying (without language skills in a foreign country!!!), but was actually quite safe. Jane had made little instruction sheets (“go across the main road and turn to your left…”) so it was also quite simple.
We didn’t even lose anyone!
I was pretty sick all Monday night and not really well Tuesday either, so I’m afraid that naps filled in the gaps instead of photography! I’ll try to take more photos today.
