Please pray for Dary

Jane came home from school on Wednesday with serious news about friends of ours. She was in the office when a call came for our old friend Vern from his wife. The Army had called her to explain that their oldest son, serving in Iraq with the Rangers, had been wounded. That was devastating news. At her urging, Vern and their youngest headed home to here the details from Jan in person. They sent out a bulletin that day with our local missionary bulletin board:
Dary Finck, son of A/G missionaries, Vern & Jan Finck, was shot in Iraq March 5. He is in Germany in the hospital, and will be medivaced to the States Friday if all goes well. Although not life-threatening, he is badly, badly hurt and needs prayer.

Dary graduated in 2000 from DA. We have known him since we came in 1993. His little sister became Anna's best friend. We have served with his parents on the DA Board through thick and thin. They are wonderful folks who love the Lord. They have been in our thoughts all day long this week.

Bits of information have been coming out over the last couple of days, but I think our friends are being a bit careful to not speculate out loud and have rumors grow. It appears Dary received bullet wounds in his pelvis. They put out a second notice yesterday.

Dary has been classified seriously injured. Because of that, the military is paying for us to go to him, when he gets to the States. That could be this evening; right now (8 am, Senegal) they are preparing him for the flight, but nothing is guaranteed. We also will not know until the plane actually is there where he will be sent: D.C., N.C., or TX.

At this time, his injuries are severe, but we don't know what the results will be -- we don't want to say too much until we know a little more. But the nerves to his legs were cut as well as the blood vessels; needless to say, we are praying that he will walk again.
The major prayer request is for pain control. Morphine and methadone were not controlling it yesterday, but another proceedure was done (we believe) and he had a good night and sounded bright and alert this morning and VERY ready to head to the States, where he has many friends and family waiting for his return. When the sheets were changed yesterday, he was in tremendous pain, so this flight could be really hard on him. Therefore we are asking for prayer from about 3 pm to midnight, especially.
Thanks again, for all the notes of prayer and support, for those who know him and those who don't but are praying anyway.
Vern and Jan

I saw Vern last night and he told me that Dary's transfer to the US was delayed. On Sunday perhaps they'll move him. He talked a little about how emotional this whole experience has been. On the plus side, he was amazed at all of the help and comfort they have been receiving. A colleague in Germany has been to see Dary. An evangelical chaplain in the hospital had a long talk with him and then called Vern. Folks are on stand-by in the various cities where Dary may be sent in the US.

They would appreciate your prayers.
