Changing Continents

Well, after not blogging for months, I’ll try to get back in the swing of things.

This blog is mostly for family and friends, so you won’t find much about ministry here. But then again, we’ve come back to the US for a year. Our ministry will consist of reporting on the work in Senegal and reconnecting with family and friends here. That, of course, includes a lot of real spiritual ministry: listening and loving and speaking of God’s grace when we can. But I probably won’t post much on those conversations! I’ll try to share my thoughts on life in the US, however, as the Lord leads.

We flew back to the US on the 7th of June. It was a smooth trip after several weeks of frantic finishing up in Dakar: emptying out our apartment and storing our belongings and saying good-byes and trying to leave things in some sort of order behind us. We left Dakar on a 6:30 AM Air Morocco flight, so I ended up pulling an all-nighter for the first time since college. I got “it” all done and had 15 minutes of sleep before we left for the airport! Just short of 24 hours later and 4 time zones to the west we landed in Cleveland. Anna and Allison and our friends, the Andersons, were there to meet us. That night we slept in Canton.

The girls had starting preparing the apartment that Carla, another dear friend, had arranged for us. They had setup our old bunk beds (from my youth) and our kitchen table (from our early married years) and got the kitchen functional. But it was kind of bare that first day as you can see in this clip.

Frankie came a few days later, brining a bedroom suite and lots of other furniture from his mom. Carla came with a sleeper-sofa. We continued to pull our own things from storage. Now the place is well equipped and comfortable.

And I’m feeling incredibly blessed. The time with the kids certainly helped! And the place is perfect: affordable, spacious, conveniently located and completely refurbished just before we moved in! It is luxury compared to what I expected to have for the year.

Thank you, Lord.
