I have two serious posts reverberating in my head at the moment, one personal and the other more of a comment on Western culture. But they'll wait. I have family who certainly want to hear about how life is going--they want more news. I'm on Facebook and that helps some, but others are being left out!

If you go to: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=131859&id=674858893&l=45b996b02d

you will see photos of our apartment here in Dakar to reassure you we're fine, Mom, just fine! :)

Of course, I'm not about to post photos of the taxis I've been riding in or the muddy alleys I've walked through after the rain lately. What you don't see, you can't worry about, right?

We have recovered a number of our own things, like the freezer and our living room furniture and, most importantly, Puzzle, the cat. She survived a year living with a poor Senegalese family, friends of ours who love her as much as we do. Puzzle lived in the parents' room with a screen door mounted to keep her inside. They bathed her weekly! And spoiled her perfectly. Thank you, Antoinette!

We have also dared to open the door to our stored worldly posessions. I managed to get about 10 feet down the central aisle of this chaos. We found the DSL modem and Jane's and my clothes and a few items of interest and then surrendered. We hope to get in there for another go in the next week to find certain other necessary items, like maple flavoring and a stapler. With no place to put the stuff, though, most of it will stay right where it is. Once we've got our own place, we'll rent a truck and discover what's in there!

Comments:
You are looking good, Tad. I'm so glad that the cat still loves you! Of course, she may just want to escape the bathing!
